My Purpose StatementWhen I was first accepted to the University of Maryland, I remember getting an email saying I had an opportunity to join the College Park Scholars program. After becoming a part of the Media, Self, and Society Scholars program, I wanted to not only develop into a person who has a true understanding of the way media plays a role in our community, but I also wanted to learn about what being part of a community meant. The people I have met through this program have become some of my closest friends. What I really wanted get out this scholars experience was to have this class act as a link between all my other classes. I believed that creating a bridge connecting different present-day concepts in all of my classes would open up my perspective on various topics going on in society today. Majoring in Psychology and Kinesiology enables me to think about my own daily life and the interactions I have with those around me and I believed that being in this program would enable me to combine my knowledge from my majors to concepts in the news and other media platforms. Applying what I learned from this class into my interpretation of present-day media has been rewarding and helped me apply for internships involving media and both my majors. For the past year and a half, this class has constantly promoted the core values of community, challenging myself, and applying my knowledge to everyday life, which has exceeded all my expectations for this program.
11/15/20 I hope you enjoy my portfolio of some of my favorite assignments from CPMS100, CPMS101, CPMS225!
