Portfolio of Past Assignments
Over the past year and a half I have taken CPMS100, CPMS101, & CPMS 225, where I've completed various assignments based off topics I learned each week. I have selected a few of my favorites that I have shared below.
Media Diary Presentation- CPMS100 |
- The Media Diary Presentation was one of the first assignments we had in CPMS100 in Fall 2019. This particular assignment reveals a glimpse of my life and my own media preferences. Doing a detailed analysis of my own consumption of media for 3 days was something I had never done before and the data I collected was quite interesting. It made me come to the realization that media plays a huge role in every person’s life. Presenting this to the entire class allowed me to share a little bit about myself and learn about my classmates, which created a sense of community from the start of this course.
How does media "do good" in a crisis?- CPMS101 |
- When CPMS101 was turned virtual halfway through the Spring 2020 semester, it was hard to find the good when so many bad things were occurring. However, this assignment was my favorite out of all the assignments thus far. Creating a podcast called “4 Girls in the Q” with some of my closest friends provided a positive outlet for anyone to listen to. I listen to various podcasts every week so creating my own was exciting and really fun especially because I was not doing much in May 2020. This class has given me confidence and creativity to take assignments and put my own twist on them. In the midst of quarantine, I was able to hop onto a zoom and just talk about what I’ve been up to while trying to throw in a few jokes. I have attached our planning sheet because the podcast has expired on Spotify.
Class Presentation- CPMS225
For the CPMS225 class presentation project, my group and I did a presentation on “how much influence do fans have over TV series content?” We were able to take what we learned from the textbook and lecture about the influence of media over fans and how TV writers sometimes use fans to influence the plot of the show and create our own presentation. In order for shows to succeed today, fans must be somewhat satisfied with what they are watching! I thoroughly enjoyed this project because I got to do research on some of my favorite TV shows and I never realized how the writers of shows are listening to fans! I created the slide about the Vampire Diaries and if you click on the slide you can view our full presentation!
